During all the years since its creation the PMU has been charged with specialized and challenging projects. It was, however, the inter-action with the various donor agencies, consultants and contractors that shaped the understanding of the prevailing problems and that helped develop solutions for the sector.

Of substantial relevance was and still is, of course, the support of WAJ and the Ministry with respect to facilities and personnel and the extended financial backing of the European Community through its MEDA programme.
